Octopizzles~

I've been working on some easy amigurumi crochet in between working and working (I hate retail!). These little dudes take about 2 hours to make if I'm slightly distracted, so they've been a nice sort of thing to do while I veg out after a day of grumpy people. They're about the size of the palm of my hand. Nice little stocking stuffers for my coworker friends and my niece and nephews~

Also, a great use for all the random yarn I have sitting around, lol. My sister in law sent me literally a giant USPS flat rate box that was stuffed with yarn that she did not want anymore. So, having a use for it all now is awesome!

Ryan gave me my Christmas gift early (I'm going to go ahead and guess that he was either too excited to wait, or too lazy to wrap it, lol. Either way, squeee~~~~

very original wrapping. I had no idea wtf it was, lol.

Wherein Star now has like every book in the public domain, ever. I'm not sure when I'm going to get around to reading Wuthering Heights and A Tale of Two Cities and whatnot, but I'm sure I'll get around to it. So far I haven't managed to spend any money on books or anything yet. I stick to the free stuff section. Amazon gives a paid app away for free every day too so I've been hitting that up.

I feel super guilty though, because Ryan and I are on a super budget. He sold his tablet on eBay to buy it for me. Probably best husband ever award right there. But I have both not enough money to get him anything so fantabulous, and nothing to sell that would be worth so much, lol. Oh well. I have made some homemade things for him, which I am sure he will love just as much!~

crazy blanket project (and things)

i've been working on a big granny square blanket:

omg camera >< for reals? in reality it's a very foresty green <.<;

now, this is a pretty terrible picture (my camera just hates all the things. i really should just use my husband's slr, but i feel bad filling it up with pictures of yarn and various other things, lol), but it is essentially going to be a checker pattern of a camo green/brown and then a deep fudge brown. suffice to say that it looks a lot better in person (very mossy/forest feeling. the green squares irl are a much deeper green and brown in areas, and yellow greenier in others - not as camo as i thought when i bought the yarn). it's really super chunky and soft yarn too so this thing is going to be so awesome. all the green squares are done and ready to go. halfway there!~

i'm also planning on making a big blanket with some variation of these squares:

this is my first real try at making multicolored granny squares

not quite sure how i'm going to do it. i think i'll experiment with all the colors until i find something i like =)

aside from that, i've been playing the myst series over. probably one of my favorite games of all time. a few weeks ago i saw the myst novels on my shelf and it got me in the mood to play (and read them too, lol). so far i've played myst, riven, exile and revelation and am partially through the offline part of uru. i'm having lots of fun with it =) i had never played anything further than the original myst when i was younger so it's nice to see what else the series has to offer.

it'll be a few weeks yet before i finish any of these projects so, if i don't post again before then, everyone have a great holiday =)

i've been sorta sad lately. holiday time is sort of a sad time for me because my fam and i live so far apart (husband's fam too), so i've spent the last few days immersing myself in my favorite things to make myself happy XD

here's a few things that make me feel awesome ;D

1. REGULAR ORDINARY SWEDISH MEAL TIME! IN SWENGLISH! 'meatball massacre'

you don't need to understand swedish to get a kick out of these videos, lol. PREDINNER SNACK - good for youuuuu.

2.miyagi's big beat demolished podcast - it's a breaks mix. oldskool breaks, like the kind i loved listening to 10 years ago, redone! awesome mix. makes me dance! download available from this site, for putting on your mobile device and then dancing gloriously wherever you go.

3. whataburger lunchtimeeeeee - omnomnomnomnomnomnom

the funniest thing about whataburger is that their slogan is 'there's one near YOU!' and it always makes me think 'wtf whataburger, no there isn't. there aren't any of you north of the mason-dixon line ffs'. if we ever move back north, i'm going to miss this place (probably a little more than chick-fil-a, another southern only fast food place). i don't eat here nearly as often as my tastebuds would like me to. it's clearly terrible for me anyways, lol..

4. the new justice album. it's awesome. this is probably my favorite song on it. 'civilization' is also great.

5. the hobbit in 3D - i wants it. right now!

this is the first movie i've ever been excited to see in 3D and it's totally because of this video. soooo excited.

it's been 2 weeks today since we got kepler, and him and ceres are really getting along now!they play wrestle all the time~ i've been taking pictures like mad

ceres is (nearly always) down. but not out!~

ceres stalking a very slow moth. it still got away, despite being the slowest moth

kepler sucking a duck >.>;

kepler has a bit of a toy sucking problem. he sucks on his bed this same way. the vet says that it's like thumb sucking, and it helps him with anxiety. apparently, it can happen often in dogs who have separation anxiety (which he most definitely does) and it's ok that he does it, as it's not actually detrimental in any way. so, we let him do it when he needs to. it just gets everything slobbertacular is all, lol.

i've started on a bit of a crochet granny square blanket that i've not had a chance to take pictures of yet. it's going to be kind of a camo color (this was entirely unintentional lol). so far i've only got 2 green squares so it's juuuust starting. perhaps pictures soon. taking my time with it =)cheers!~

when half price books is overstocked:

it is as if the heavens themselves open, apparently, lol.

ryan and i went to half price today, mainly looking for some books about dog behaviour and language. kepler is being all misbehavy. he's never had obedience classes tho so we don't hold it against him. ryan is the sort of person who likes to fully research this sort of thing. i for one never complain when he wakes me up in the morning with 'do you want to go to half price? >.>

when half-price gets overstocked with things, they put everything with a clearance sticker on it on sale for 50 cents. some of the books we found in the clearance section were on the normal shelves too, for normal half-price price >.> so, we walked out of there with some wicked deals (and a lot of dog books, lol)

i'm interested to see how awesome 'the nagasaki vector' is going to be, lol.

everything went better than expected. i might actually like some of these books too, lol.

he's a 6 year old golden retriever. and he looooves getting petted, snuggles, toys that look like various waterfowl, days that end in y, his new bed, and tennis balls.

we're having a hard time determining if he's getting along with ceres (our beagle mix) very well. we think they're just having an interesting time getting the pack hierarchy down pat, lol. hoping for the best!

i didn't forget you guys ;) i've just been super busy with work (it's a tough time of year to work retail in texas with tax free and back to school happening with labor day weekend on their heels).

i've got some reading to catch up on now, lol :o
i'm reading a feast for crows, and while it's entertaining, it's taking me forever to read. i keep falling asleep mid-page, lol. that's a pretty big book to drop on your face while you're reading it, lol. perhaps i should make it a habit to not read laying down <.< >.> eeheee

i've got such a large to-read list that i'm really trying to get at least 50 books in this year. so far i'm at 40. i think i can do it! 10 more to go. a feast for crows makes 41 when i finish it. then only 9 more to go with 4 months.

i've become convinced that the move to a new climate has completely messed with my immune system. cuz i get sick like once a month now >< i used to have an awesome immune system - people would all be getting sick and my immune system would be all like 'ppsshhh we got this.' but now... now it's all like 'the texans.... they plague usssssss.' wtf texas? ><

so, having lots of tea and soup to try and fight off a summer cold... in 110 degree heat.... in drought conditions.... with a sunburn <.< fml, lol.

other than being sick every day and a half, i've been doing a lot of reading lately, instead of stitching. i've just not been in the mood to stitch, but every part of me just wants to gobble up books by the hogillion. i've been reading a song of ice and fire, but right now i'm taking a break from it. the wheel of time taught me that if i try to swallow too much hardcore epic fantasy at once, i'll burn myself out on it for like 5 years, lol XD

so, i'm taking a break from ASOIAF with the harper connelly mysteries, by charlaine harris. yay for quick and easy reads =D and then back to hardcore epic fantasy, lol.

nyan nyan nyancat hair barrette

eeeheeee. i am excited about wearing this one around the town (and to work XD)
i had some hair barrettes in my crafting stock, not knowing what i'd ever do with them. i was making nyancat to be a magnet for my fridge when it hit me.

ooooooooooomg hair barrette. and that's how it happened. ;D

the only problem i forsee is that, well the hair barrettes i used (these ones) - well i have memories of them getting my hair stuck in them and pulling, upon removal. so we'll see. stupid curly frizzy hair. it gets stuck in everything, lol.

i managed to find a little free time over the last couple of weeks to work on filling in the white parts of my scene from kirby's adventure for the sprite stitch charity quilt project.

i was so worried i wasn't going to be able to get it finished on time, but luckily moving and unpacking has been moving along quite quickly, so there's that =D

moving has been going well, i've got my crafting room/library almost worked out (really it's the 'spare room' but i figured i'd jump on the opportunity to have a crafting room/library as long as my husband didn't mind hehehe)

this is one corner of the room, with the closet. my ikea desk that i couldn't bear to throw away (despite it being worth like $10), i figured would be a good sewing table. the shelf on the right is mostly my husbands old reference books, but there's some fiction there too =)

this is inside the closet, where i keep all my crafting stuff organized. i keep it pretty meticulously organized for such a messy person, lol

this is the far wall with my book/manga/anime collection against it. yeah, i'm a nerd >.> a total obvious nerd <.<

there's eventually going to be a loveseat next to the floorlamp (but it doesn't get here until next month, lol), and there's an empty wall with a window on it in there too.

so that's my pride and joy of the new house right now, lol. aside from that, the living room is full of boxes and the kitchen is perpetually full of empty boxes, lol.

well, mostly moved. still between house and apartment but all essentials for living are at house ;P

house is so big and quiet. is so... different (and awesome- quiet is so.. so awesome) ;D

anyhoo, so we just got internet at house today so i decided i would test it out and update my blog to say hi ;)

it'll be several more weeks until i get settled down enough (and unpacked enough probably) to do any real crafting. i've got some ideas brewing for stuff i'd like to make tho ;D so we'll see how that all works out!

still no stitching has been done since... about quarter-past february. all my crafty stuff is packed up and ready to move so, there's that.

i've just had no energy between work and stuff. crafting is supposed to be relaxing i know ;P but i've spent nearly all my free time from working/packing either watching doctor who or trying to read a book. sometimes at the same time because i don't get that much free time lately and i want to try and maximize what i can do in it ;P

buying this new house is exciting and having a job is.. i suppose moderately exciting lol

i'm not going to be able to finish my quilt piece because i have no time to sit down and fill in all that white =( that makes me sad. life is not going to let up until about september either =\

yay! it's almost not entirely even remotely done >.> wooo hooo!~

i have to fill in the white still, but other than that it is done. it'll look pretty much the same when it is finished (regardless, i am filling in the white. there are circumstances where one can leave the aida blank if the color is appropriate but in my opinion this is not one of them)

so, i'll be filling in white for about a month, lol. i'd estimate less but i forsee a lot of breaks on this one ;D

went to half-price books today!~ yaaay happy place!

total cost: $35

i'm excited about finding that manga for cheap, since i had the first volume already and it was pretty gewd~

i had the first myst book and loved the game back in the day, lol. so, i thought i'd give those a try. the last unicorn was a good find too :o lots of childhood memories there, lol. a friend i used to work with recommended uglies to me and it sounds like an interesting story. the other 2 paperbacks are just random books i thought looked interesting, lol, i do that a lot. i do judge a book by its cover ;D but only if i've never heard of it before, hehe.

also a cute little sewing book with patterns for some interesting and very useful looking things. there's a passport cover and a water bottle carrier but there's also patterns for things like a roll up pocket case for crochet hooks, garment bags, pocket organizers for cleaning supplies and so on. very interesting and totally worth the $5 i think~

now lots of reading and white-filling-in on my to-do list, lol.

anyways, this is the WIP pic of my square for the sprite stitch charity quilt. a scene from kirby's adventure for the NES (one of my most favorites when i was a little girl^^)

now, my camera apparently hates brightness in any respect so suffice it to say that it's much brighter in real life, lol. also, the stars glow in the dark =)

now i have one more bit of green to do, and then the top right corner is blue and then the rest of it (most of it >.>) is white. so i'll be filling in a toooooon of white. yaaay.... oh well ;P it's my own fault for picking this scene XD i love that little witch enemy though, so i thought my scene needed one of them in it ;D

i've decided to just stitch the one square since ryan and i will be super suuuuper busy in the coming months since we're going to be moving into our new house in april. yay moving (not really. this will be the 4th time in 2 years i'll have moved >.> at least this time it's into a house where i can stay forever if i want lol)

so with moving and unpacking and painting the house etc i'll be really busy. so, kirby it is =)

anyways, back to it or i'll never get all this white-filling-in done ;D

the sort of day that not even sickness can wreck

so, i've come down with a hell of a cold. been pumping advil cold and sinus and halls and chicken noodle soup into my body to keep it at bay, but it's not staying at bay ;P

but i'm still having a really excellent day!

my green card came in the mail today! suuuurrrpriiise! (literally)
7 months earlier than expected, with no interview and no medical needed (and no warning it was coming lol- the letter that says that it's coming actually came later than the card itself did, lol).

i'm now a permanent resident of the united states :o

which feels... i dunno yet ;P i'm glad i can be with my husband and.. y'know.. get a job here now but i miss canada every day. even on crazy snowstorm days.

the card itself is hardcore. they had to give me a special envelope to put it in to prevent it from communicating wirelessly with other things. yeah. it also has my picture, signature, fingerprints, name, birthdate and resident number visibly embedded in its magnetic strip. pretty hardcore piece of plastic if you ask me, lol.

so i've stalled on woodland enchantress again. i'll just admit it early. i haven't been in the mood to stitch it. oh well... the new years resolution does state that i have to finish it sometime this year. so.... i'm shooting for november =D i'm gunna start working on my square for the sprite stitch charity quilt in a few days. i was going to do more than 1 square but i have so much going on later in the year (probably after april) that i had better limit what i commit myself to. i take on too much and then stall everything.

book wise, i'm still getting through the mistborn series (amazing). i'm on the last book about halfway through, i just can't find the time to read. this afternoon i got a chapter in before i fell asleep and dropped my ebook on my face, lol. so, my main problem here is that every time i find some time to read... i fall asleep reading XD oh well!

half-price books!~

there needs to be half-price books everywhere. unfortunately it's only in the states. and even then, i had never heard of the place till i got to texas. there are stores outside of texas but the ratio of texas to not-texas is pretty insane, lol.

it's my favorite store <3 i can go in there and just spend hours combing though shelf after shelf looking for treasures. it's like going to the library in a way. while my local library down here is pretty damn impressive compared to what i was used to in my hometown, they apparently prefer to stock hardcovers (it's understandable for libraries because of the constant use of the books), and hardcovers can suck it. i read epic fantasy dammit >.> that shit is like 400 pounds in hardcover ;P also not having to give it back is good ;D i collect things, you see^^;

i mean they do buy books too but i have a hard time selling my books hehe ;D

so, apparently taking an extended break from woodland enchantress- i just felt the need to finish up my ramona magnet

i had the outline done for a very long time but something came up before i could finish it and i just never got around to it^^;

these are those sorts of cross stitch where you look at the colors before you start stitching and don't think they're right but they come together very very well ;P i just ran with it - i love the way it turned out. she's on my fridge next to knives now =D

finished maison ikkoku. oh rumiko takahashi... you sure can make a series about 2 people who fall in love and manage to hold off on that first kiss for 92 episodes >.> like 90 episodes of frustrating main characters who obviously dig each other but never go anywhere with those feelings >.> but i can't look away! inuyasha did this too if i remember right- and ranma, lol. urusei yatsura was a little more forward ;D
anyways, i enjoyed it =) now i'm watching tsubasa chronicles, lol. oh clamp... ;D

sailor saturn and pluto were always my favorites, and i thought that making a sailor moon to complement the pair would be nice =) i really like how they turned out and how they look in my itty bitty frames~

they were stitched on 14ct off-white aida. thanks to missy-tannenbaum @ dork stitch for the patterns. they were really fun to stitch^^ i'm excited for saiyuki characters. it's one of my favorite anime series =D

speaking of anime, i've been watching maison ikkoku and i'm just about finished with it^^ i've watched bits and pieces of it throughout the years but never made it the whole way though. i remember why i like rumiko takahashi's stuff so much =) it's always entertaining^^ urusei yatsura (along with sailor moon) is the anime that got me into anime in the first place all those years ago =)

i love watchin up all the old stuff i've meant to watch all the way through for yeaaars. i think next up i'll watch lost universe which i've seen snippets of or perhaps magic knight rayearth (which i've seen 90% of.. but it was on in the background while i was doing other things so i'd like to give it more attention this time)

ryan and i adopted a dog from a shelter here on saturday. i should say 'rescued' especially in her case because she was just terrified to be there. we named her ceres (after the dwarf planet technically but i wonder how much a roman fertility goddess will hate you if you name a spayed dog after her >.>)- she wasn't responding to the name that the shelter had given her and she seems to like her new name so far =D she's in between 3 and 4 years old and is a beagle mix (we don't know with what.. any ideas?)

we got really lucky, because ceres does not.. do anything bad :o i mean... she doesn't bark or snarl or bite or chew shoes or rummage through the trash or go to the bathroom in the house or beg for people food or... well.. anything bad^^; we're not sure if that's just a for-now thing while she adjusts but we definitely don't think she's a barker at least (which is ideal because we live in an apartment).

we think she might have had a tough life in the past though ; ; because she is terrified of strangers and other dogs. she really gets on well with ryan and i so far though^^ she loooves snuggles and when i'm sitting on the couch stitching she gets right into my lap and wiggles around when the thread tickles her nose XD

i have no idea what i'm going to do with all of these yet, lol

i was thinking i'd do a scarf... for starters lol.

my hubby said i should make a blanket but that would require like 20 more sets of colors and i'm totally already sick of crocheting granny squares ;D

maybe i'll stash them somewhere until i'm in the mood to make more, lol

woodland enchantress is on hold for the moment until my q-snap frame comes in the mail. the circular hoop i was using is.. well not so much causing on it's own but the corners of the piece are warping slightly because the hoop can't hold the corner bits taut enough. not really the hoop's fault - it's just a side effect of it's circularity ;P

and so, since i don't like using a lap stand or a floor stand (yeah, i've tried both - i change my sitting position too much and it's a bit of a hassle to get it in the right place each time) i need something light enough to hold and yet square so - yay for q-snap frames ;P

i'm not giving up on woodland enchantress yet! =D

learning new crafts is fun~

yes it is =D so in the last 2 months i've dived into a bunch of new crafts that i'm unused to and it's been pretty fun =D

last night i made my first amigurumi ever ;D i call him kawaii carrot.

kawaii carrot is very nutritious *nod*

once i got the hang of making a ring and crocheting in the round it was actually pretty easy, aside from losing count a bunch of times, lol. i really like how he turned out ;D

i also recently made an attempt at a paper pokemon. my husband has done some papercrafting in the past and he gave me some great advice (but i still glued it to my finger at one point, lol).

i like the way it turned out though^^ i've decided to make a dragonair next, so i've been cutting out pieces in my spare time^^ i'm not sure when i'll have enough time to assemble it, but we will see =D

heres a picture of the oh, bugger sampler framed and on my desk =) it fits juuuuuust perfectly in this 5x5 frame i found at the hobby lobby (on sale, because everything i need is conveniently 50% off when i need it there >.> that's why i shop there ;D)

lastly, on the anime resolution front, i've been watching the newer haruhi suzumiya series (the one from 2009) in preparation for watching the disappearance of haruhi suzumiya on about a hogillion recommendations because it's apparently very good. after that, i think i'll watch marmalade boy as per recommendation =) thanks for the suggestions everyone^^ keep them coming =D

i've gotten all my new years resolutions in order, now to get started on them, lol^^

first, here's a pic of my latest finished project: a fun little subversive sampler^^

one of my resolutions is to finish the woodland enchantress kit that i got for the christmas before the one that just passed >.> it's a little more than halfway done- i will take a few pictures in a few days^^

secondly, as some of you may have read on my deviantart page, i am resolving to watch the giant pile of anime i have that i haven't watched yet - i am looking for suggestions from my fellow anime fans on which anime i should watch^^ i've gotten a few recommendations but we're talking a whole years worth of anime here ;D i needs more!~

here's a pretty loosely organized list of the anime i have either downloaded or on dvd - anything marked 'want to watch' is stuff i have but haven't watched yet

now- i'll admit that i have different tastes than a lot of other anime fans (read: i have stalled naruto, bleach and fullmetal alchemist [haven't watched brotherhood yet tho] more than once each. there i said it >.> i seem to have trouble getting into them. perhaps someday i will try again, lol). this is usually met with a certain degree of incredulity from some friends of mine so i'm just warning you guys in advance ;P

that being said, i'm open to all kinds of suggestions. if there's something i don't have yet for example then i will definitely look into getting it! ;D

thirdly, i'm resolving to start drawing again - ryan got me some nice drawing paper and a sketchbook and some pencils for christmas and so i will hopefully get back into that groove (not that i was ever very good at it, lol). so you may see some drawings appear here. maybe not ;P i'm very critical of my own work so most of it never sees the light of day, lol.

i've been busy doing all kinds of decorating and wrapping and baking and crafting and stitching hehe^^

here are a few of my christmas pictures from this year- showing how much of a nerd i in fact am ;P theres a pic of my most recent cross stitch at the bottom too^^; photo heavy post!~

being diabetic, i don't usually allow myself to do a gingerbread house (because i just eat too much candy and icing at that point lol) but while i was in micheal's a few weeks back, ryan and i ran into this foam gingerbread house and i thought it would be super fun to put that together- i'm sure it wasn't as fun as icing and candy but it was pretty fun hehehe

our tree is fairly small, and we found that our choices of tree toppers were either much too large or much too heavy for our tree, and so i used a pompom and some pipe cleaner to make a certain fairy for our tree.

it doesn't snow here, and despite living my entire life in canada previous to moving to texas, i actually like the snow^^ so, i found these foam snowflakes at michael's and took the glitter glue to them one night while i couldn't sleep- setting them all out to dry in various places around my apartment, hoping to hang a couple on the tree or give them away to friends or something. when i woke up the next morning, ryan had hung them all on the ceiling ;D it made me smile. it's winter in my apartment now =D

my friend has a daughter who loves loves loves stuffed toys. (loves. srsly.)
aside from that, her favorite things in the whole wide universe are 1. cats and 2. pink

well, i was browsing through the clearance section of the good old hobby lobby and found a fabric remnant of this fluffy pink...ness and told myself that it would make a perfect kitty cat stuffed toy for her christmas gift =) it only cost $1.40 too, lol.

combined with some ribbon and some buttons from my button box, i think i'm pretty proud of the way this turned out =D

i may try my hand at sewing again sometime, since i have patterns for an elephant, a pig and a giraffe on top of this kitty :o there is possible cuteness to be had!

i made a few of these guys today (well, i made the cloud parts today- the scarves have been done foreeeeeever lol)

i like the way they turned out. the picture really doesn't do the clouds justice, lol. in real life they're really fluffy and snuggly (they're stuffed, you see hehe)

but ahhh they're just long enough to wrap around my neck once which i love. it was actually cold enough for a scarf here today (in the morning) which is surprising to say the least since it was in the 80s yesterday and in the 50s today. damn you texas- make up your stupid weather mind!

i made thanksgiving dinner yesterday for the first time ever and rocked that turkey's face off- rawr. so, i was pretty pleased. ryan made maple blondies, which were delicious but i am fairly sure that if i did not have diabetes before eating them i do now (i am in fact diabetic anyways so i guess that's not a good analogy for how sugartacular these bastards are- lol my poor pancreas... i'll only hurt you so once a year i promise <3)

i can't say no to a deal >.> but i hate shopping on crowded days. somehow we made it out to best buy for black friday deals... despite the fact that the parking lot was rammed it was mostly alright in the store. kick-ass on bluray for 10 bucks yesplz ;D so, did a little shopping but didn't break the bank hehe.

there definitely was a dude camping outside of that best buy 2 days ago though, tent and all. crazy ass people here camping outside stores for things. i mean i love a deal too but damn ;P wonder what he was camping for.

i'm making some scott pilgrim magnets for my hubby (well, for me too lol) but process is slow going because a) i'm trying to take it easy on my hand because of a slight injury to some nerves that was making 2 fingers and the thumb of my right hand go numb intermittently (it's mostly stopped doing that now but i'm giving it a break anyway lol) and b) fable 3 which i am pretty much done with now having found and done pretty much everything. debating doing it again being the evilest bitch who ever lived as opposed to the extremely good but totally crazy-looking lady i was this run.... but i have a pretty short attention span for video games usually (as compared to ryan who will play a game for months if it's something he enjoys- rock band and forza/grand turismo being prime examples) whereas i will only play a game for longer than a week at a time if it's an mmo (and i don't do that anymore lol) so i end up stalling games, remembering to finish them 2 years later and then forgetting where i was or how to play, restarting and stalling it again (ohhhh tales of vesperia *and* tales of legendia... i'm looking in both of your directions^^;;;; lol) - i think i have video game ADD lol >.>;

i think i'll just go play some tales of vesper-OMG LOOK A KITTEN! *runs off*

2nd we have the palmtop tiger - the nickname of taiga aisaka in toradora! she gets the nickname by being both short and fierce, so everyone calls her the palmtop taiga ;D i thought that it was pretty cute and so i fiddled with it a bit to get it patternish in nature, lol.

scarves!~

i've been making scarves for my niece and nephews for christmas :) (they live in illinois, where it gets cold, unlike here, lol). i learned to crochet last year so i've been keeping practiced when i can. this took way less time than i figured though, hence why it is just november and i'm already finished. i'm making them cross stitch ornaments too, so i suppose i have all kinds of time left to do that, lol.

anyway, so i found this cute sparkle green yarn, so i made a scarf for my nephew who's favorite color is green (he's 4, so i think he's still young enough to appreciate sparkle, lol!)

and then i found this impossibly soft neon rainbow yarn, with fluffy bits and i said to myself that i could not not make a scarf from it, because it would be the greatest scarf that ever scarved. i think my niece will like it a lot =D

last but not least, i made a scarf for my oldest nephew (he is 7). he is slightly fascinated that i am from canada, so i had a bit of a theme going, lol. this yarn was so soft that i wanted to use the ball as a pillow, lol. but alas ;P there is no yarn left to sleep on ; ;

i hope they like them =D as for keeping practiced in crochet, well i've never been able to do anything but a strait line (hence scarves ;P)

ryan and i got married today =D it was just a nice simple ceremony at the courthouse ;D nothing too fancy (yet - we're planning a big wedding in a year or so but for right now we had to get married sort of in a hurry because we had to do it before my visa expired. i don't think i can plan a wedding in 3 months, lol)

so now we can finish the final leg of paperwork for the government, and live happily ever after =D

haven't been reading or crafting as of late because of the move, but since i got here i've been hitting up netflix through the 360 nonstop while building all our new ikea furniture, lol. watching oldboy right now and it's like my 25th movie in a row, lol. interesting movie... it's a bit bizarre because it's dubbed... with anime voice actors, lol. hearing crispin freeman's voice come out of a korean man's mouth is a bit weird to me right now. but oh well. interesting movie!

i've got nothing to show you guys since all my craft stuff is packed (i feel really bad for not updating more often but i don't want to bore you all to death, lol)

with my stuff all packed, i've been reading a lot of books (because i use an ebook, i can have hundreds of books to read without needing to pack them- go team ebook)

right now i'm reading the weather warden series by rachel caine. they are a sort of urban fantasy with bit of romance. i'd compare it most to the sookie stackhouse series or the stephanie plum series.

the first book, ill wind, was a little slow to start but once i got 70 or so pages in i couldn't stop reading :o now i'm on book 7 of the series and it's become so difficult to put the books down that i end up reading the whole thing in a day, lol. the relationship between the main character, joanne (a woman who can control the weather) and david (a djinn who usually helps her do it) reminds me so much of my own relationship. i think that's why i love these books so much, lol. all and all, great stories, nice twists and turns in some of them. they're short easy reads too, which i like from time to time =)

i'm playing with my library on librarything (this is my read list) which is much fun. i'm... organized when it comes to things like this. i like to organize lists of things i have read or games i have played or movies i've watched (i'm freaking weird like that i know >.>)

so i've cataloged every book i can recall reading in my adult life - i'm up to 156 - i definitely thought that i was more read than that >.> my mom reads more than 156 books in a year - le sigh! i love reading tho =D i'm going to keep adding to my list and see where i get

so, this is my submission into the spritestitch challenge for july and august (it being done early only serves to make sure that i have all of august to pack and move etc etc)
when the idea of making the challenge alphabet related came up i was literally in the ruins of alph catching unowns in pokemon heartgold, and so that's where this idea came from. i really love how it turned out and i can't wait to frame it and put it in my computer room at my place in texas ;D

working on my seeecret project for the sprite stitch challenge this month, which is theme is 'the video game alphabet.' so, i won't show you it yet, but it is almost done (surprisingly so) and i will be sure to post pictures when it's done. i'll give you a hint - i'm stitching a pokemon for every letter of my name (stardrifter - it's been my name since... since at least the us release of ffxi.. so that was... early 2003 i think, lol wow what a long long time! also what a freaking nerd i am, lol)

so, i've not really had time to update in a while, for a few reasons

the first is, the uscis has finally given me the date of my interview at the us consulate in montreal, which is august 17th =D sooooo, the week after august 17th, i'll be moving to texas. and so i have of course been packing, and organizing my stuff for packing and doing some necessary paperworks and making necessary doctor's appointments.

the second is pokemans ;P a lot of the free time i have left from doing all of that is taken up by trying to fill the pokedex in heartgold. so far i'm doing pretty good with it, but i dunno what i'm going to do when i need to trade legendarys to fill it up ;P so far almost 270 pokemans caught, so, getting there!

and i've just no desire or time to cross stitch while i have so much other stuff on the go, lol. so.. nothin to see here >.> just wanted to apologize for lack of regular updates and lack of cross stitch pics to look at ;P

i will be trying to update as much as i can throughout packing and other busyness!

i've been readin up a storm lately, instead of cross stitching (just haven't been in the mood- it happens a lot with me) so, my e-book is getting a ton of use! which is always good (cuz theres 100 or so books on it to read still, lol) =D

over the last 2 weeks, i've read.. lets see.. 5 books =D here are some short and probably not great reviews XD

christopher moore - island of the sequined love nun - i love christopher moore. for realsies. he's like jonathan coulton only not a singer, if that makes sense ;P he can make up the weirdest sorts of stories and i latch right on because everything he writes is hilarious. i loved the characters in this one, espessially kimi and roberto, lol.

william gibson - count zero - this one was a little hard to understand in parts, mostly for me as it is a sequel to neuromancer, and while i have read neuromancer, i probably should have read a summary or something, because it's been a few years. and by a few i mean like 7 or 8 ;P that's not so great when we're talking gibson... cuz he makes up his own technology, lol. i remembered what an ono-sendai deck was tho! take that gibson!

terry goodkind - debt of bones - this one was a real short read, which i was all for. it's a prequel to the sword of truth series, which i finished finally last year. this was an interesting read, and kind of further explained some things that happened previous to wizard's first rule. all and all it was good. i'd have to put it on the half of the sword of truth that i liked (the first half, up until faith of the fallen) rather than the half i did not like so much (pillars of creation and everything after it).

janet evanovich - three to get deadly - ok, my mom constantly sings praises for this series and so i started reading it last year. the first two were good, but i liked this one better than them. though, there were times were i'd be reading it and be like 'so, does she screw one of these dudes eventually or what?' because the sexual tension between the main character and 2 male characters is ridiculous sometimes. i mean to me it's sort-of a romance novel, right.. so they should prolly just bone and get it over with, lol ;) all and all i couldn't put this one down, it was pretty captivating.

terry pratchett - mort - now, this is only the 4th book of discworld i've read and i liked it as much as the previous ones. the colour of magic and the light fantastic were excellent. equal rites was pretty good too but not as great in my opinion. mort was funnier i found, than the previous ones. they've all been pretty excellent though. i really really enjoy how discworld is more a series in that the books take place in the same universe, rather than being an epic fantasy series where you have to remember the names of hundreds of characters and why they are important (wheel of time i am looking in your direction...)

speaking of the wheel of time, i've decided to catch up on it. several years ago i read up to book 9 in the series. so before book 10 now, due to the complicatedness of the series, i've looked to a wiki for book summaries chapter by chapter (it's all coming back to me now lol). this encyclopedia has been a life saver! it's so thorough :o

anyways, i'll bring this wall of text to an end ;D maybe i'll work on ed a bit in the coming days and see if i can get another WIP shot up. later!~

tried selling some of my crafts at my yard sale this morning. the cheap people in my town were interested until they saw the price. i guess that's what i get for trying to sell stuff like that at a yard sale =\

i added tons of new stock to my etsy store. i figure it wouldn't hurt to sell the mini frames, as they have way less chance of breaking in the mail because the amount of glass is smaller and it'll be much easier to package for mailing =)

sorry i've not updated lately, i've been busy with doctor's appointments and my yard sale (which was half rained-out, so i'm having another one in a couple of weeks)

i've also taught myself to crochet, with the intention of eventually learning how to do amigurumi (i'm nowhere near that yet). so far i've made my friend and my sister scarves (i know it's not really the right time of year for it, lol) to master some of the different crochet stitches. so, i've got most of the basic stuff mastered. i'm going to keep practicing =)

i've still not been in the mood to cross stitch much, it's been put on a back burner for a while. i go through phases ;P right now i'm in the reading phase, which has split off into another stage i shall call the crochet phase, lol.

i'm gathering up stuff to have an epic yard sale. a yard sale that will in fact, put all other previous yard sales to shame............... shame!

.. well anyway ;P i've been gathering up old manga, and books and various figurines that i have no room for or just don't want anymore and ima sell it to make some money for visa filing fees, heh.

so far i've got the entire kare kano series, & the entire absolute boyfriend series as well as most of what there is so far of ouran host club and godchild for sale. yeah, i do love me some shoujo manga XD theres also some random manga- some excel saga, some love hina, some saber marionette j... very random volumes etc ;P

my mom has about a hogillion billion romance novels for sale, and i have 3 boxes of just random stuff for sale. everything from a sha gojyo figurine to a lord of the rings chess set ;D

no, i'm not dead! i've just been very busy with a bunch of things!

i've been reading and doing a teeny bit of stitching here and there, but for the most part i haven't been feeling great so i've been trying to feel better, and reading and stitching, lol.

i have a bunch more paperwork to do for the US immigration people, but first i have to renew my passport apparently because it expires too soon (hey, maybe they'll spell my name right this time ;P)

so, i'll be chilling in the passport office all day ;P i'll remember to bring my book XD

hey, i found the original pattern i used, minus the lettering, which i did separately. i had saved it on a flash drive apparently (which is great because i had no idea people wanted it when i deleted it from my hdd ;P)

this pattern does have a space at the bottom of it from where i removed the lettering so feel free to play around with it, you may have better luck with the lettering on this particular pattern than i did^^

i don't really fancy myself a book reviewer because i can never really get my feelings about books across, but this is a special case because this is one of the first books i've read in a long long time that was so good i found it difficult to put down.

it follows the story of cayce (pronounced case, though she was named after someone who pronounces it casey), who is a marketing consultant, and a woman who has psychological reactions to trademark logos. she consults with advertising companys on new logos, based on her reaction to them.

the main plot is about a sort of viral video, which they call 'the footage'. it's small sequences of video that have popped up on the internet and has aquired a cult following. cayce's hobby is following the footage while her and her forum friends try to figure out what it is and what it means.

while in london consulting with a company there she is hired by the man who runs the company to work on the side. he wants her to find whoever makes the footage, because he thinks it has the ultimate potential for commercialization and he wants to market it to a larger audience, so he gives her a nearly unlimited expense account to find its source. so, she travels to between tokyo, moscow and london looking for the maker of the footage, making some interesting friends and enemies along the way.

the central theme of pattern recognition is just that (of course- it has a fitting title), both with cayce's search through the footage for meaning, and in her job as a marketing consultant, trying to find patterns in fashions and fads. it's interesting to see how cayce, who reacts with fear to some logos, makes it through a life in our commercialized world.

this is the first of william gibson's books that is set in the present day, and i loved that. i've read neuromancer and that was also an awesome book but it's nice to see something present-day from gibson. it's suspenseful and difficult to put down because something interesting happens to cayce at every corner. i recommend it to anyone that likes a thriller or sci-fi sort of mystery book.

and there you have a terrible book review of a not-terrible book ;)

our I129f petition* was approved by the uscis today! we were worried they were going to ask for more proof of us having met for realsies (they consider pictures 'secondary proof' and pictures are a lot of the only proof we had at the time) - but they did not. so we are moving right along!

*(the 'petition for bringing a foreign fiancee to the united states for marriage' - or the beginnings of the K1 visa process)

we're expecting an interview date that is very likely going to be at least 3 months from now. that gives me time to do the 1 last thing i need to collect prior to the medical before the interview, which is to have a police check done on myself (to make sure i'm not a criminal i guess lol)

ffxiii is still happening but very sloooowly (which is amazing compared to previous titles, which you could not pull me away from) - i'm finding it slightly hard to stay interested in it. there are a few reasons for this and i could prolly do a review of it once i'm further along... maybe it'll get better?

plus the whole not being able to move my arm thing makes it difficult to get comfortable to play for long periods of time ;P

anyways, thus far it's not better than 12 in my opinion. i'll leave it at that for now ;P

but yeah final fantasy 13 is pretty much pwning my face in. it's really confusing but really easy... that's one of my major gripes with it so far. we start each battle with full hp and there is no mp? .......really?.... and where is my battle victory music dammit?!?! but anyways, it's still a good game and.... i'm going to go play it now XD

sorry no updates lately. i've been super busy because ryan is visiting next week. so i've been cleaning the house and getting things ready for his arrival =)

so i probably won't be updating next week either lol^^;

i only get to see him once every 3 or 4 months (and he's my fiance! >.>) luckily this is only for a few more months, likely until july or so. i'll be moving then, just waiting for all the k1 visa paperwork/interview etc.

i've been doing bits and pieces of the woodland enchantress but it's going very slowly now lol. i've also been gridding out some sprites for my little frames, because i figure that i'll do a couple of those to kind of take a break from the enchantress so i don't get burnt out ;P

so far i've made grids of nina from breath of fire 2 (loved that game! it was hard to choose between nina and katt) and marle from chrono trigger :) i'm going to need new colors for these though so we'll see when i can make a trip to the craft store^^;

so anyways, i'll be back in a couple of weeks^^

you know, compared to what i've done already, this project should be pretty easy from here on. this particular corner had the most different colors etc, while the rest of the background appears to be large sections of one color done in half stitch.

more from the rainbow brite pattern booklet. patty o'green was my favorite rainbow brite color kid when i was little hehehe.

this is a teresa wentzler piece that i did when i was about 16. i remember it being the hardest cross stitch i had ever done (because it was the first one i ever did that used combined colors lol) it's only 5x7 and it took me like a year off and on to finish. ahhh good times >.> at least i've improved over the years lol

re: trogdor pattern request - i don't have the pattern anymore sorry^^; but i had the same problem when i loaded it into kg-chart, so i had to do the lettering separately. i did it in a paint program (similar to photoshop) that grids out pixels, because i couldn't get the lettering to look right in kg-chart either. sorry for the late reply on this but blogger doesn't notify me when i get comments on things and i forget to look at anything under the top 2 posts^^; i have a bad bad memory >.>;

been watching the olympics almost constantly over the last week (go canada!). it's pretty awesome watching them in canada. the opening ceremonies were amazing i got all teary-eyed and patriotic hehe :o all and all it's nice to show the world a bit of canada :)

no wip shot today, my camera is out of batteries cuz that shit eats a pack of AAs in a week. i need to go get more. it's coming along tho ;) it's starting to get a little heavy with all the stitches in it (plus i clip the chart right to the hoop with a clothes pin so i can see it better) so i've started wearing a wrist brace just to avoid any unnecessary stress on it ;) cuz theres a lot more to go lol.

woodland enchantress WIP the third

it's starting to take shape quite nicely now =) the skirts i think are going to prove to have been the hardest part of this piece, as there is a lot of different colors going on in there.

that and the french knots. french knots and i do not get along. oh they can tell me until the cows come home how to do one, and i can of course do them constantly when i'm not trying to, get annoyed and pull the knots out of the thread as per usual. but once i need to do a french knot it ain't happening. it comes down to me making a couple knots in the thread and tying it down in the back lol. and there are hundreds of french knots on this thinnnng >.> we will see how those turn out then ;P

if that doesn't work, some stuff i ordered from the needle gnome is on it's way to me to do a quick but large project in the interim (about the size and difficulty as trogdor) . that should keep me occupied for... oh i'd say about a week. and i mean.. at that point if stuff is not here then i'm calling up that place and using my angry voice. ;P

it's times like this i wish i drove. the lady at the needle gnome is prolly like.. wtf (i live like a 20 min max drive away from her store lol). but hey, she has an online store and ships next day so i love her from the next town over ;P

went to the doctor yesterday to get my immunization record for the visa medical.

i was going to do a cactuar and a moogle to go with my chocobo but the only moogle sprite that will fit in the frame is a little small and didn't really go with the chocobo.... and so.... i decided on some different stuff~

my favorite mario ever is tanooki & my favorite zelda game is a link to the past (only very slightly moreso than ocarina of time)

and so i've used up my 2 extra teeny tiny frames =)

tetris piece magnets~ they're rather small and therefore perfect for putting up pictures on the fridge =)

final fantasy 1 sprites~ this is my absolute favorite project i've done so far. i love how these turned out and it brings back so many final fantasy memories~ it's tempting to just keep these for myself! (i'm making more for myself for sure to put on my fridge)

magnet man magnet~ now, i can't make sprite magnets without making one of magnet man... it's just not right!

cactuar magnet~ in things i'll be doing in the future i have an ongoing theme of final fantasy- and what's final fantasy without cactuars?

mega man bookmark~ i made one of these for ryan a while back. this is what inspired me to open an etsy store =)

pacman bookmark~ i'm sorry this picture doesn't do it justice^^; the tassle is made with a glittery ribbon that doesn't show up in the picture. the colors are also brighter in real life. and yes, my couch is teh awesome.

kirby bookmark~ i love love love how this turned out. it's a tiny bit small (it will still mark a book just fine though lol) but it's so cute and bright and awesome. i found the perfect pink checker ribbon to pair with it for a nice tassle too. kirby was one of my favorites back in the day- i have whole sprite sheets with the different kinds of kirbys (beam, sword, wheel etc) so, expect more to come~

moogle hanger~ another thing final fantasy can't do without- moogles! as you can see, this hangs quite nicely off cupboard handles or.. well anything that you can hang something off =D

best friends forever~ the companion cube will never threaten to stab you and in fact, cannot speak. i found this pattern on sprite stitch and i couldn't help myself =)

pacman bookmark~ this one is all mine, because it makes me smile =D i also found this pattern on sprite stitch and couldn't help myself. i did it on plastic so that i didn't have to try and sew it together to prevent fraying.

this was the main part of my design. a few days ago i made a pacman bookmark with the phrase 'om nom nom nom' underneath it and it inspired me. if pacman is om nom nom, than mega man is definitely pew pew pew.

basic outline. i like how the lettering turned out. i actually pulled the font right from the main menu of mega man 3. at first i wasn't sure if i should add the shadowing but in retrospect i really enjoy how it turned out.

now, in the actual game, the color of the 'pellets' that mega man shoots are the same color as his face. it's sort of a flesh. it's because of the limited color palette of the nes. so, i made the executive decision and changed it to a light yellow to make it look like it was glowing.... now it just looks like he's shooting a lemon. but, i like it nonetheless.

it also took a long time to figure out who i would have mega man pewpewpewing at. i finally decided on gemini man mainly because his coloring matches the overall color scheme of the whole piece. also because i hated gemini man and he needs to be pewed in the face.

finished product. i love how it turned out- and it did force me to play some mega man 3 on wii virtual console last night. pew pew pew pew pew- it's as hard (but as fun) as i remember~

found a picture of the cross stitch i've been working on intermittently. it's at ryan's house at the moment and i need another needlework stand before i can finish it (that one broke ><) - once i get back there i'll get it done. i can't wait... been working on that thing foreeeeever. it's a geisha =)

i've been suuuuper busy the last few weeks stitching up a storm getting prepared to open my own etsy shop.

mainly i'll be selling cross stitched magnets and bookmarks made from video game sprites (for the most part- there is some other various stuff happening)

i'd show you them but my sister is in possession of my camera currently- but i will post pics as soon as i get it back =)

i can tell you that i'll be selling this (the tassle on the one i make now is different tho - made of ribbon - to save thread). theres also kirby, pacman, final fantasy 1 sprites, a cactuar and a moogle (so far)

if anyone else has any ideas or suggestions i'm totally open to that. what would you buy?

in other news, ryan and i are in the midst of filing for the k-1 visa and it's going just swimmingly apart from the 50 hogillion billion forms i have to fill out and immunizations i have to get (i r teh hate needles) - but the vermont office has cashed the check! yaaaaaaaay! (that means the process has officially started and that they are now going to look at our entire life history we had to include in our package.

computer is fixed, everything i want installed back on it is back on it - and counting >.> - steam is still working on a lot of things. and utorrent is redownloading a series for me that i have from like the 90s and is such terrible quality that i can't stand to watch it - so, redownloading better quality.

that being said, i can't really surf around too much because between steam and utorrent i have no bandwidth left. it took like 5 minutes for facebook to load all the way. yeah, it's that bad >.>

but i will give you this: best. ps3. media. server. ever. - for watching anime. it transcodes 1080p mkv files in realtime. you do need a lot of bandwidth for that though. so don't be downloading 36 things and try and use it at the same time then come here and tell me it's shitty. because anything that lets me watch mkv files on my big tv wins ;D

so i was reading the torontoist and picked out a couple of cool things from their list of 2009's best articles.

-first, we have the great torontoist pun hunt from earlier in the year. and THIS entry wins. it just.. it wins. that is the best possible thing you could have ever named your company and i commend you. 1st prize.

-secondly we have the snapshot in time article. it was really interesting to see what is still there and what is gone.
